Celebrations and Smash Cakes

I love celebrations. Life is too short to not appreciate the little moments, which is why I've been known to break out a bottle of champagne and some sparklers just to celebrate Friday night! So, if that's my attitude towards weekends, you can imagine how excited I was to get together with some friends to celebrate their little boy's first 365 days on the earth.

Kruz woke up from a nap to find his home was full of people. It only took a few moments and some puffy Cheetos before he was on board to celebrate.

The Birthday boy got one of those sweet motorized baby vehicles. Is it weird that I'm a little jealous?

Maybe it is because I don't have kids of my own yet, but I had no idea that "smash cakes" had become a thing. Apparently there are bakeries that specialize in smash cakes? I guess the idea has been around for a long time-- I have a photo of myself as a baby covered in frosting and crumbs in my highchair-- but I had no idea it was now part of the million-dollar baby industry! Mama Mika-- who is a super talented/crafty type-- made her own smash cake, and it was adorable.

Mom Mika shows off her baking and decorating skills... The masterpiece is about to be smashed.

And of course, the moment everyone was waiting for: Smash Cake!
(For future reference: blue and green frosting is the perfect super-messy-looking color combo.)
